About Hillcrest School : HIS was started in 1958 as the Sentani International School, though it only catered to elementary levels at the time. It was begun by CMA (the Christian and Missionary Alliance) for the children of its missionary families in Papua. The first campus was founded on Pos 7 in buildings that had previously housed General Douglas MacArthur’s staff during WWII.

The push for secondary education led to the formation of HIS as we know it, and resulted in the school’s current location atop HIS hill. The shift began in 1987, and the consolidation of the E/MS and high school portions of the school was finally completed in 1999. Since these humble beginnings, Hillcrest has branched out to include two satellite schools in Nabire and Wamena to serve Grades 1-8. (Note: the Nabire school is currently closed.)

We now include, not only students from CMA, but a variety of missions organizations, as well as business expats and local students. The diversity of HIS has grown considerably, with students hailing from Korea, South Africa, Australia, Singapore, the Netherlands, and many other countries. Our multicultural environment and history has blended together perfectly to produce a truly distinctive and unique flavor—a testament to our missions roots and modern global culture.
