About this school : Consent for the establishment of a Polytechnic in Brunei Darussalam was given by His Majesty in his titah during the Teachers’ Day Celebration on October 2008.

The setting up of a polytechnic is in line with the need to accelerate the development of country’s human resources as emphasized by the National Development Plan and the Wawasan Brunei 2035. It is also in line with the implementation of key educational policies, MOE Strategy Map 2007-2011 and the new 3-Tier qualification framework of TVE that provides alternative pathways for progession for Years 10/11 and Form 6 students and better articulation between general education and vocational and technical education.

The main objective of the establishment of the Brunei Polytechnic is due to the demand for more highly skilled and educated workforce is expected to increase in the coming years, especially in relation to the proposed focus of economic development on the four clusters of transport and logistics, financial services, business services and hospitality and tourism. At the same time to meet the needs and challenges of the social and economic development of Brunei in the 21st Century. The need to ‘accelerate human resource development to meet the country’s demand for an increasingly sophisticated economy’ [BDSNDP, 1993, p.18]. In this context and emphasis has understandably been placed on education and in particular on technical and vocational education. A skilled and educated workforce with a sufficient number of appropriately trained tradespeople and technicians has increasingly been seen as a necessary co-requisite for growth and development. in the current National Development Plan the Goverment has emphasised the inmportance of the improvement and expansion of technical and vocational education and training in order to respond to future the economic challenges [BDENDP,2000].

The academic structure comprises 3 schools:
1. School of Business and Finance
2. School of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and
3. School of Science and Engineering
