About this school :
GEMS International School of Pearl City, Penang is set to open its doors in September 2015.
It is a school for children aged 3-18 who will follow an enriched British curriculum, leading to the IGCSE and A Level qualifications. The school will be set in a green and healthy environment on a campus spanning eight acres, with access to superior facilities.
The GEMS pedagogical approach is founded upon the core values of growing by learning, pursuing excellence, leading through innovation, and global citizenship. This ethos will permeate the learning environment and be immediately apparent, inside and outside of the classroom.
Bahasa Malaysia, Malaysian History and Moral or Islamic Studies – compulsory subjects for Malaysian students and electives for others – will be taught to strengthen roots in Malaysian values, culture and development.
Core competencies in literacy and numeracy will be nurtured and developed starting from a local perspective across various subject offerings, and reaching the broadest perspectives, as encapsulated in the maxim “Malaysia first, the world next”.
Students will be taught by both Malaysian and expatriate teachers, all of whom will be specially trained to understand, execute and assess GEMS’s pedagogy. The school will foster an environment encouraging high parental engagement.
The total learning experience at GEMS International School, Penang will be supported by superior facilities which include an auditorium, laboratories, libraries, arts rooms, music rooms, design and tech room, ICT room, drama room/ black box theatre, dance studio, climbing wall, gymnasium, basketball courts, indoor play area), outdoor play area, soccer pitch, swimming pool and learner pool, and tennis courts. In addition, a counselling room, infirmary/ sickbay and prayer room will also be provided. A well connected (fully Wi-Fi enabled) environment will be provided.
