Welcome to East Campus

East Campus first opened in August 2005. We are an IB World School, having received our authorization to deliver the Primary Years Programme (PYP) at the end of December 2008. We recently completed our Self-Study and Evaluation in 2012 and continue to work closely with the International Baccalaureate Organization towards fully equipping our students to become life-long learners and successful world citizens.

Our school is made up of the Early Years Programme from Kindergarten 1 to Year 2 and the Junior Years Programme from Year 3 to Year 6. We use the curriculum model and framework of the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP), and we are extremely enthusiastic and dedicated to its approach and philosophy as it directly supports our school’s mission: to inspire, educate and enlighten. It is an educational framework developed by the IB that aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable, and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. The IB recognizes that learning is a developmental process and that the different phases a learner passes through are not always linear or age-related. As a PYP school, we understand that parents bring with them different experiences and expectations that derive from the national curriculum of their home country. To assist with understanding the PYP curriculum, we offer workshops throughout the year, run by our PYP Coordinator, to help parents become more knowledgeable about the PYP and the practice of teaching and learning at our school.

One of our defining attributes is our school spirit and friendly, community atmosphere. As a school, we have always worked hard to maintain and actively promote this part of Chatsworth East that makes us a wonderful place for learning. Daily life in the school involves raising awareness of and appreciation for the IB Learner Profile Attributes and Attitudes. These are fundamental in building the foundation for values in an internationally minded student. We expect our staff and parents as well to model the Learner Profile and set appropriate examples for our students to follow while at school.

We have a House System in place. Each child will be placed in Changi (red), Raffles (yellow) or Sentosa (green) and siblings will be placed in the same house. We use the house system to inspire students to work towards personal goals, work together in teams and promote citizenship. Merit points are given to students for effort, good work, sporting achievements and modeling the Learner Profile Attributes and Attitudes. As well as providing students with a strong academic education, we also value and promote active participation in sports and the arts. We bring the school together to celebrate these areas during our assemblies. Assemblies are also used as opportunities to Music performances, bring in guest speakers and share appreciation for members within our school community.

At Chatsworth East, we have an open door philosophy. Parents are welcome to make arrangements to meet with homeroom teachers throughout an academic year. Equally, teachers may request meetings with parents if they need to discuss their child’s progress or experiences at school. We realize that when having discussions about a child, it can potentially be an emotional time. However, we believe that both parents and teachers always have children’s best interests at heart. Therefore we feel it is important to remember that during meetings, or when communicating through email, everyone interacts in a positive, supportive and productive manner where the focus is either on sharing information or reviewing and setting goals for the child.

Parental involvement at Chatsworth is always welcome. Throughout the school year you will receive invitations to participate in your child’s learning experiences through Student Led Conferences (SLCs), Parent – Teacher Conferences (PTCs), to watch performances, to help with field trips and on occasion to assist with classroom lessons and activities. Please contact your child’s homeroom teacher if you would like to assist with any activities in the classroom, whether it is on a regular basis or simply when you have available time. If you would like to further involve yourself in our school community, please contact the Chatsworth Support Group (CSG). The CSG’s purpose is to positively and actively support the aims of our school community. Details for contacting the CSG can be found on our school website: http://www.chatsworth.com.sg / News

Your child’s homeroom teacher will provide you with further information specific to that class and Year Group during Orientation at the beginning of the school year and throughout the remainder of the academic year. Please check our school website and your homeroom teacher’s class website regularly for important information and upcoming calendar dates so that you are kept current on events taking place at East Campus.

Should you have any questions or should any issues arise, the first point of contact should be your child’s homeroom teacher, as he or she will most often be in the best position to offer immediate, pertinent assistance.
