 Qualification :The School of Civil Engineering and Technology, Sirindhorn International
Institute of Technology (SIIT), Thammasat University, invites applicants for a
new open position for Research Assistant in the field of
Experimental Soil Dynamics. The title of the project is as follows:
“Dynamics and energy dissipation mechanisms of crushable
soils”

The Research Assistant will perform, as major part of the project, Resonant
Column (CYCLIC/DYNAMIC) tests on granular soils including biogenic sand, quartz
soils and ballast under the supervision of Dr Kostas Senetakis (PhD, Lecturer,
SIIT) and the co-supervision of Professor Matthew R. Coop (PhD, Chair Professor,
City University of Hong Kong). Partially, the researcher will support an other
project of Dr. Kostas Senetakis relative to the utilization of recycled
materials in civil engineering.

The project is planned for 12 to 14 months starting from August or September
2014, if possible. There is the opportunity for the researcher to continue for a
second year as Research Assistant or to continue after the first part of the
project as a Master/PhD student at SIIT under the supervision of Dr. Kostas
Senetakis and the co-supervision of Professor Matthew R. Coop.

The only requirements for the candidate are that she/he is Thai with a
bachelor degree in civil engineering or physics or geology (a master degree in
civil or related field is desirable but not compulsory).

Apart from Dr. Kostas Senetakis and Professor Matthew R. Coop, there will be
collaboration in the project with academics/researchers from the University of
Hong Kong and the University of Southampton.
It is a full-time, fixed term position with competitive salary. The project
will include, apart from element (laboratory) testing, micro-mechanical testing
using innovative experimental techniques directed by Dr. Kostas Senetakis and
Professor Matthew R. Coop as well as advanced numerical simulations of granular
assemblies under cyclic/dynamic loading (DEM) in collaboration with an academic
from the University of Hong Kong (Dr. Fiona Kwok).
