The Origin of Moo Ban Dek: A Registered Learning Center in Thailand

Moo Ban Dek, also known as Children’s Village, is a registered learning and teacher training center in Kanchanaburi, Thailand. Founded in 1979, the school originally located near the Kwae Noi River but moved to its current location near the Kwae Yai River in 1985. The 80-acre campus was donated by the Chinda Iam-Chamriang Foundation and was initially funded by the Foundation for Children.

Nurturing the Next Generation: Education from Kindergarten to High School at Moo Ban Dek

Moo Ban Dek offers education from kindergarten to sixth grade, with a focus on serving children from disadvantaged backgrounds including orphans and those from poor or broken families, ranging from 3 to 20 years old. After sixth grade, students are supported to pursue high school education and can participate in vocational and artistic workshops to develop their technical skills. Upon graduation, Moo Ban Dek alumni go on to work in various industries or start their own businesses.

Empowering Students to Shape Their Own Education: Innovative Curriculum at Moo Ban Dek

At Moo Ban Dek, students are empowered to control the terms of their own education, with a curriculum inspired by the Summerhill school method and incorporating elements of Buddhism and psychotherapy. The school also emphasizes sustainability, with students and staff working to create a self-sufficient community through farming and using green energy sources.

Building a Better Future: Moo Ban Dek, A Non-Profit Children’s Village

Moo Ban Dek is a non-profit project under the Foundation for Children, with the majority of its funding coming from within Thailand and other donors such as UNESCO and Partage Foundation. However, due to the impact of Covid-19, the school is seeking additional support through selling products from the batik, weaving, and woodwork workshops.

Building a Supportive Environment for Growth and Empowerment: The Dedicated Team of Moo Ban Dek

The school is staffed by 24 full-time employees including teachers, administrators, and social workers, with additional support from volunteers. The educational atmosphere and curriculum are designed to meet the needs of the children and provide a supportive environment to help them grow and mature at their own pace. With the goal of providing love, freedom, and empowerment, Moo Ban Dek is a unique alternative school for children in Thailand.
