On January 14, 2016, Professor James Peter Keim – Director of the Bay Area Oppositional and Conduct Clinic at the Institute for the Advancement of Psychotherapy in San Francisco and as a Clinician at Lifelong Medical Care in Berkeley, California; together with Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy (CTUMP) hold the Workshop on Working with Resistant/Oppositional Patients:An Introduction to Motivational Interviewing at the Hall of CTUMP’s Hospital.

 

Assoc.Prof Pham Thi Tam, CTUMP’s Vice Rector chaired the workshop. 52 participants included 18 CTUMP’s staffs and 34 grade I specialization students in Internal Medicine and Family Medicine.

At the workshop, Prof. James and Dr. Thai Thi Ngoc Thuy – Vice Head of Scientific Research and International Relations Office – gave an overview about the workshop objective, cooperation between Prof. James and his partners in Vietnam. Prof. James also presented about concepts, approaching methods, principles, strategies and skills of motivational interviewing. In addition, the participants were also actively exchange with Prof. James Keim on experiences, arising issues in practice at the clinics, as well as in teaching behavior change and patient counseling.
