55 years ago, in 1957, the Phu Tho National Technical Center was established by a combination of College of Civil Engineering, College of Electrical Engineering, College of Industrial Arts Engineering and Vietnam National College of Maritime Technology. This is recorded as an important milestone of the history of formation, existence and ongoing development of the Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology over the last half century.
Many generations of lecturers, academic staff and students have devoted their time and knowledge to the development of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology nowadays. At first, the university just focused in training human resources for the South, then, the university has developed undergraduate training activities with high quality students, promoted post-graduate training, enhanced high quality training programs and offered various international cooperative training programs.
Growing up from its initial campus, the University has made its considerable expansion, having started with the second campus in Di An – Binh Duong and tentatively going to construct other additional campuses, contributing to the development of student recruitment market and training fields. Along with the strategic investment in specialized Faculties, The University has constructed National Key Laboratories, Key Laboratories at VNU level, Centers for research and technology transfer, placed its main priority over personnel development to achieve the sufficient number of professional teaching staff with enthusiastic and dedicated professors, associate professors, doctors, getting ready for the most remarkable and fast progress of a research-based university. The good reputation, high training quality of HCMUT has been affirmed through accreditation and evaluation activities recognized by reliable higher education accreditation organizations in region and all over the world.
With a professional and creative environment being actively shaped, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology has been in continuously significant progress of development, asserting its role as a leading university of training and scientific research in Southern Vietnam as well as in the whole country. The University is deserved to be a key member of Vietnam National University – HCMC, contributing to the construction, development and protection of the nation.
