The University of Economics and Business (UEB), a member of the Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU), was established in accordance with Decision No. 290/QD-TTg by the Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam on 6th March 2007. Started out in 1974, the former Political Economics Department, University of Hanoi has experienced several transformations.

Important historical milestones:

  • November 1974: Political Economics Department – University of Hanoi.
  • September 1995: Department of Economics – University of Social Science and Humanities – Vietnam National University, Hanoi.
  • July 1999: Department of Economics – Vietnam National University, Hanoi.
  • March 2007: University of Economics and Business – Vietnam National University, Hanoi.

The University of Economics and Business has been known as a young and dynamic university with a strategic vision and a strong determination towards international standards in education and research. The University’s position and prestige has been strengthened recently.

The university has affirmed its prestige in training and research quality, initially achieved several successes, building the fundamental for further development towards efficiency and quality based:

In training activities, the University has standardized the existing training curricula, opened new programs and strengthened the quality of honors training programs, international standard programs (16+23 program) as well as other postgraduate and international joint programs. In 2009, the university was entrusted by the Party Central Organization Committee and the Vietnam National University with a mission to cooperate with Uppsala University (Sweden) to implement a joint masters program in Public Management under Project 165.

number of studies in the country and internationally. Those studies have been characterized as the openness, the association between basic and applied research as well as qualitative and quantitative research methods.

The research of the UEB has been aimed to facilitate the management and improvement of the quality of training programs; to study the practical and development of socio-economic policy and businesses; to study issues related to new specializations as well as to address urgent problems associated with the economic growth of the country and of the development of the UEB itself.
The large-scale research projects (3 at state level and 3 major projects) implemented by the University have grown in quantity and quality. As a significant honor, the UEB was assigned by the Central Theoretical Council to implement the Vietnam Annual Economic Report in 2009. In August 2010, the UEB leaders submitted the report to the Council. In addition, the UEB was successful in organizing a number of national and international workshops. With the participation of world-renowned scholars such as Prof. Tom Cannon – world leading planner of development strategy and Prof.Dr. Susan Schwab – former United States Trade Representative and others, the UEB has gradually become a destination of world’s intellect.

countries and territories, namely Haas School of Business – University of California Berkeley (The US), Benedictine University (The US), Princeton University (The US); Uppsala University (Sweden); Massey University (New Zealand); Université de Paris – Val de Marne (France); Waseda University (Japan)… In Vietnam, the UEB has developed a networking system with leading strategic partners including economic corporations, enterprises, associations and banks such as the Gami Group, Vietnam Oil and Gas Group, Lien Viet Bank, Bao Son Group, Doji Gold and Gems Group, Hanoi Business Association, etc.

With the progress achieved for 40 years of development, the UEB has been awarded Third-classLabour Medal (1997) and Second-class Labor Medal (2004) by the Party, the State and many titles of high honor and merit certificates by the Vietnam National University, Hanoi.
