About

Sataban.com, a four-step process

Sataban was originally created for Foreign teachers like myself who wanted to travel and teach abroad. And to be honest I was not really looking for such or such school program at the very beginning… I just wanted to teach English while traveling in South-East Asia.

Later on I did come back to my old education philosophy and ended up working for Buddhist, Montessori and Reggio Emilia alike schools in the Kingdom of Thailand. But my first motivation was discovering the world thru education.

So when I got my very first teaching job on Ajarn.com in 2012, with a work permit and all, I got very excited ! I was ready to leave the States and Berkeley California where I had been working for five years and which I love by the way… Did I mention I actually come from Brittany in France ? That’s quite far away from The City and Oak-Town but that’s another story.

Anyway, before going away I wanted to check the school I had gained a teaching contract from. Basic stuff : address, reviews, type of school and program, philosophy. But nada ! Perhaps were there some info in Thai language at the time but nothing at all in English to be found.
I went there but a big question mark remained : where was I going to exactly ?

Once I landed in Bangkok and got an hold of the person in charge of recruiting English teachers, I do have to say that I got pretty lucky. In fact, it turned up that Jeff, the head of the English department for the Sarasas schools back then (some of you may know), was just an amazing guy both on a professional and human aspect. Thanks to him, he really made my trip worth while.

Years passed (well, one in fact) and found myself becoming a father. And as I like to think way ahead of the time, there came a new question : in what kind of school will I enroll my child in and at what cost ? I was picky about Thai schools and education in general and knew how much it costed to have one’s child enrolled in a day care, preschool, university and so on. And believe it or not but it’s far more expensive there than France (I’m talking about private establishments).

And what about hobbies, activities, and training schools ? Where going to learn about swimming, music, sport ? And then I learned that schools were also interested in having an educational platform to advertise their philosophies and provide prospective families with phone numbers, addresses and emails.

And so was born Sataban in 2013.

PS “2013” ? I know everything went quite fast, right ? 🙂
