About this school :

Wawasan Open University (WOU) is one of Malaysia’s foremost, private institutions of higher learning dedicated to adult learners who seek to pursue tertiary qualifications for professional development and self-enrichment. The University is now reaching out to school-leavers with its introduction of full-time degree programmes, WOU On Campus, in September 2013.

Established in 2006, WOU uses flexible approaches to make higher education accessible to all – anytime, anywhere – and to create a lifelong learning community for aspiring individuals regardless of their previous educational, ethnic or socio-economic background. Through its unique open distance learning (ODL) model, self-paced learning and flexible study pathway, WOU enables working adults to pursue their educational dreams without much disruption to their professional and personal commitments. As a result, more than 15,000 working professionals in Malaysia have to date experienced the learning opportunities at WOU while they continue in their jobs.

Under the ODL mode of learning, WOU offers 45 programmes ranging from the sub-degree to postgraduate levels in the fields of business, technology, education and liberal studies, including six MBA programmes. WOU produced its first batch of MBA graduates in 2010, and its pioneer batch of Bachelor’s degree students in 2011.

WOU has spreaded its wings to offer affordable full-time degree programmes at its main campus in Penang. The WOU On Campus learning has been specifically designed and packaged for fresh post-secondary school leavers and diploma holders. The courses are taught by well-qualified and experienced academic staff of WOU.

WOU, through both its ODL and on-campus full-time learning opportunities, is adding to the pool of skilled manpower in the country. The working professionals as well as the school-leavers/diploma holders will be equipped with industry-relevant knowledge and skills that will serve them incredibly well in today’s competitive work environment.

All WOU programmes are fully approved by the Malaysian Ministry of Education (MOE). To date, 28 out of 45 programmes offered by WOU have received full accreditation status by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA); and out of the 26 accredited programmes, 13 have received recognition from the Public Service Department (JPA) following the graduation of its first batch of students.
