I went to Phuket for a position with this international school. I was so happy. After a week there, I could see it wasn’t the place for me. There were a lot of red flags. For example, one manager saying one thing, the other saying something else. Getting information from one manager about probation periods and contract terms – another thing from the other manager. I was not interested in an employment situation with such conflicting management input, so I gave notice and offered to stay until they found a replacement. I didn’t get a response, so I prepared ready to leave.
Subsequently, one of the managers came to my apartment. I thought we were going to have a conversation about my staying. I was shocked when he went around my apartment collecting things he said he was keeping for ‘collateral’, including grabbing the bag I had in my arms with my passport and wallet. I couldn’t believe it. He started out the door and when I grabbed him to try to stop him, he hit me, knocked me to the floor and literally ran out of the building. There is no excuse whatsoever for such conduct. The man was deranged. Maybe on drugs.
I called the police. I chose not to file criminal charges against this man or the school. It is my hope administration shows sufficient care and concern for its student body to address the issue of this man’s fitness to remain with this institution.
