EY Teacher Assistant – Duties and Responsibilities

Context
A teacher’s assistant is a valuable commodity in any department or school. The school or the class teacher would not be able to function without this
assistance. They need to support the teacher, the extra curricular club teacher, and the Heads. They must have a good command of English to be
able to support the teacher in the capacity of a teacher assistant.
Teaching and learning
1. Assist in the educational and social development of pupils, particularly second language learners under the direction and guidance of the
head teacher and class teachers.
2. Working alongside children making sure that they are well cared for and supported in and out of the classroom.
3. Assist in the implementation of Individual Education Programmes (IEPs) for students and help monitor their progress.
4. Provide support for individual students inside and outside the classroom to enable them to fully participate in activities.
5. Work with other professionals, such as speech therapists and occupational therapists, as necessary.
6. Assist class teachers with maintaining student records and reports.
7. Support students with emotional or behavioural problems and help develop their social skills.
8. Able to take the initiative inside and outside of the classroom.
Administrative duties
1. Prepare and present displays of students’ work
- Creating ideas for murals, painting, displays, portfolios and items like props for plays and concerts.
