About Piboonbumpen Demonstration School: Piboonbumpen Demonstration School is situated on the Burapha University Campus in Bangsaen, Chonburi. The International Education Program for Basic Education (IEP) at Piboonbumpen Demonstration School offers Basic Education Program for Matthayom.
We are working towards a teaching style that is similar to any Primary school throughout the Western World. Consideration is given to the learning styles (including multiple intelligences – linguistic, logical-mathematical, spatial, musical, bodily-kinesthetic, interpersonal, intrapersonal, naturalistic, existential) of the students when lessons are being planned.
Students are also expected to develop higher levels of thinking as well as learn the skills of a learner in order to take responsibility for their own learning and become lifelong learners.
Piboonbumpen Demonstration School classrooms are set up using learning centres to provide independent learning areas for students. Appropriate learning resources are available in the classroom as well as a slide projector . Classrooms display students work not only to provide a bright and interesting environment but also to motivate and encourage students to be proud of their accomplishments as well as having ownership of the classroom.
Program Overview
English – taught holistically, using the first language approach that language learning is developmental and learning to speak, listen and understand is done by listening and speaking, learning to read by reading, and learning to write by writing. The ‘Writing Process’ is used for teaching writing. The reading programme uses little reading books called readers. Alphabet, phonic and spelling programmes use a variety of resources including ‘Let’s Learn Letters’, ‘Rockin’ Phonics’, ‘Sing your way to Reading and Writing’, ‘McGraw-Hill Phonics’ and ‘New Ashley Spellers’(Nelson Price Milburn Ltd). The McGraw-Hill ‘Grammar Zone’ resource is used for grammar. The Handwriting style taught is a basic cursive script very similar to the Jarman font style.
Thai – taught in a first language style using appropriate grade level resources.
Mathematics – focusing on hands on and practical learning as much as possible using a variety of learning materials including Marshall Cavendish Education’s, ‘Mathematics Connection’ written specifically for the Thailand curriculum.
Science – modeling and using the Inquiry approach based around ‘Science Connection’ from Marshall Cavendish Education which is produced for the Thailand curriculum.
History – taught based around the resources written in Thai for this subject and includes learning Thai games, proverbs, stories and culture.
Art – very interactive, extending student’s artistic skills uses a variety of learning materials including the ‘I’m Creative’ programme from Singapore.
Physical Education – all students are involved in fitness which includes running, skipping, hula hoops, aerobics, relays, ball skills and yoga. Weekly Physical Education sessions focus on skill development as appropriate to the level of the students.
