Phuket International Academy is a leading International Baccalaureate (IB) World School in Thailand. PIA is staffed by highly qualified and experienced professionals, who are committed to providing PIA’s students with a school education of the highest international standard. The school is situated on the extensive Thanyapura campus nestled on the boundary of a mountainous national park on the northeast of Phuket Island, Thailand. PIA caters for students from nursery through to the IB Diploma Programme (Grade 11 & 12). PIA’s primary school comprises a nursery programme (ages 18 months – 3 years) and the IB Primary Years Programme (ages 3 – 11 years). The secondary school includes the IB Middle Years Programme (ages 11 – 16) and the IB Diploma Programme (ages 16 – 18).
PIA is unique in that it is a global leader in the budding movement to embed evidence-based Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) and secular Mindfulness programmes into its academic curriculum. The approach to SEL and Mindfulness at PIA focuses on the integration with the Learner Profile and the larger IB framework, but also on the aspiration of establishing a positive school culture by tending to both intrapersonal awareness and interpersonal sensitivity. PIA uses a variety of developmentally appropriate resources including the latest in cognitive neuroscience, social and emotional skills development, mindful awareness practices, and research on positive emotions, all of which help to further bring the school mission to life.
The purpose-built performing arts centre provides PIA students with exceptional facilities both for curricular and enrichment activities in the performing arts under the auspices of the Phuket Academy of Performing Arts.
PIA is fortunate to be a Thanyapura, not for profit, affiliate, and as such, the students and families of PIA have full access to Thanyapura facilities. Thanyapura is a unique international leading-edge sports and leisure centre where world class sporting facilities meet the highest level of professional training. Many PIA students participate in the unrivalled range of academies with competitions, teams and training at all levels and ages.
The Thanyapura campus also includes two other integrated centres, which enhance the shared vision, namely, the Mind Centre and Thanyapura Health.
