About iCAN British International School Phnom Penh Cambodia:
Our Curriculum
iCAN British International School Phnom Penh Cambodia is dedicated to providing a challenging learning environment that is child centered and well balanced. Our curriculum planning takes into account the individual needs of all our pupils. Each class follows a daily schedule that caters for every type of learner and is designed to stimulate and develop a variety of interests within each child, allowing them to reach their full potential. We regularly review and evaluate our planning to ensure we provide the very best education possible.
Our comprehensive teaching programme is based on the English National Curriculum and the International Primary Curriculum (IPC). Our curriculum is designed to prepare children to enter their next school with all the social and academic skills they require. The curriculum is divided into four stages:
Early Years Foundation Stage (2-5 years) – iCAN PLAY, Nursery and Reception
Key Stage 1 (5-7 years) – Year 1 & Year 2 (Milepost 1)
Key Stage 2 (7-11 years) – Years 3 & 4 (Milepost 2), Years 5 & 6 (Milepost 3)
Key Stage 3 (11-14 years) – Years 7, 8 and 9 (2012-2013)
The IPC is used by over 1000 schools around the world in 65 countries. The IPC is focused on helping children to learn to their optimum capacity and enjoyment and is based on the most up to date knowledge and understanding of how learning takes place.
Ensuring optimum progress in Literacy and Mathematics is at the heart of our mission at iCAN British International School Phnom Penh Cambodia. We believe attention to these key learning areas is essential. Our learners participate in daily Literacy sessions (which encompasses reading and writing) and Mathematics sessions applying skills, knowledge and understandings from these key curriculum areas across all aspects of the curriculum.
During these important years, teachers strive to produce active, engaged and motivated learners. In addition to studying the core subjects of Mathematics and Literacy, children become immersed in integrated studies through the IPC units of work and are increasingly able to work using a variety of resources and technology.
We believe in the importance of building a solid foundation in Science during the primary school years. At iCAN British International School Phnom Penh Cambodia the children actively and regularly participate in the process of scientific investigation by observing, classifying, exploring, predicting, testing, modifying and applying understanding to reach conclusions and interpret data. Learners develop skills in scientific investigation of physical phenomena, living things and earth and its surroundings.
The aim of our History, Geography and International Mindedness programmes is to develop in the children the values, attitudes, skills, knowledge and understandings that will enhance their sense of personal, community, home country and global identity. We aim to enable them to participate proactively in maintaining and improving the quality of their society and environment.
The children have the benefit of specialist teachers for Physical Education, Swimming, Music, ICT and Modern Foreign Languages.
By offering a broad range of learning experiences, iCAN British International School Phnom Penh Cambodia strives to provide an enriched learning environment that enhances the total development of each student, cognitively, emotionally, socially, physically and spiritually.
