A Teaching Assistant is an invaluable member of staff, when working with children who have additional learning needs. Applicants should be patient, tolerant and have an excellent command of the English language. We are a British speaking school; therefore, all lessons are conducted in English. Prior experience of being a Teaching Assistant or working with children who have additional learning needs is desirable. Teaching & Learning
1. Working with the students to ensure that they are well cared for and supported both in and out of the classroom.
2. Assisting the class teacher to manage the whole class, should they wish to work one to one with the children with additional learning needs.
3. Assisting in the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for students and helping to monitor progress towards targets.
4. Work with other professionals, such as speech therapists and occupational therapists, as necessary.
5. Support students with any emotional or behavioral problems and help to develop their social skills.
6. Be able to take the initiative both inside and outside the classroom. 7. Be flexible throughout the day depending on the needs of the child. 8. Motivating and encouraging the students. Supporting the SENCo and Class Teacher 1. To assist the SENCo to develop a suitable programme of support and to carry out the programme, within the classroom or in a withdrawal situation. 2. To maintain the SEN team’s system of recording and monitoring of pupils’ progress. 3. To provide regular feedback about pupils’ difficulties and progress to the SENCo and Class teacher. 4. To help with writing of reports about the pupil/s’ progress as requested by the SENCo. 5. To participate in the evaluation of the support programme, with the SENCo and class teacher during reviews. 6. To help adapt/find differentiated materials to enable pupil/s to access the class curriculum.
Standards and quality assurance 1. Support the aims and ethos of the school by being good role models themselves by behaving at all times with professional integrity. 2. Set a good example in terms of dress, punctuality and attendance. 3. Be able to work professionally within an academic setting 4. Attend team and staff meetings. 5. Undertake professional duties that may be reasonably assigned by the head teacher such as teaching clubs, playground/gate duties, etc. 6. Be proactive in matters relating to health and safety. 7. Be prepared to take part in training and specialized SEN training.
Other duties and responsibilities 1. Follow a timetable from 7:30am – 4.30 pm (or as directed by the Headmaster) 2. Perform duties as directed by the Head of Student Support or the class teacher, 3. Visually check equipment for potential hazards and ensure a safe working environment. 4. Prepare materials as required. 5. Assist students with ‘hand-on’ tasks. 6. Attend gallery trips/ exhibitions as required. 7. Assisting lessons such as PE, swimming and art lessons where appropriate. 8. To communicate and liaise with parents in their native language such as teacher/parent conferences, translating information and letters home. 9.
