Job Description
The Secondary Academic Assistant (Learning Support) for the following subject areas: Design Technology, Digital Design, Health/PE, Science, Math, Music, Art, Drama, English,
Individuals and Societies works under the direction of the Learning Support Coordinator and offers supports in the fulfilment of the teacher’s professional responsibilities.
General
- Works from 7:10 am until 3:40 pm Monday through Friday
- Assists with supervisory duties as required. These normally include the canteen, playground and classroom on a scheduled basis
- Attends team and staff meetings as required
- Participates in all school activities, such as education outside the classroom, assemblies and parent conferences, if requested to do so by the supervising teacher
Supporting the Academic Program
- Prioritizing the needs in the classroom
- Meets regularly with LS teacher to identify, prioritize and discuss classroom
needs and learning objectives
- Meets regularly with LS teacher to identify, prioritize and discuss classroom
- Implementing assistance for those needs and learning objectives in the classroom
- Provide targeted support for students in Integrated Studies classes
- Assist students individually and in groups in class
- Facilitates alternative assessment when needed
- Collaborating with both the subject teachers and the LS teacher to plan lessons
- Shares ideas and discusses classroom activities and projects
- Organises teaching materials and resources
- Designs student support, review and remediation material
- Reporting on students
- Review and provide student learning feedback in regular meetings with the LS Teacher
- Supporting the after school Learning Centre
- Carries out other work as needed to support students and the LS teacher

The Secondary Academic Assistant (Learning Support) is an important component of the
school’s educational programme. They are viewed as a critical part of meeting the needs
of all students in a collaborative and supportive team environment. The items listed
above are intended to indicate the general parameters of duties, however, team members should show a desire to accept responsibilities for a variety of tasks when necessary.
