Harrow International School Bangkok was founded in 1998 as the first Harrow International School
in Asia and is now mature and thriving, with 1,450 students on our green 14 hectare site in North
Bangkok, Thailand.

Responsibility
The postholder is responsible for providing and facilitating the efficient technical support to the
Science Faculty in teaching and learning in the Upper School. In particular to prepare, store,
maintain, clear materials and equipment used in science lessons in accordance with Health and
Safety regulations and working together with other technicians in the Science Faculty as necessary.
The duties include the following :
Read and follow all guidelines regarding Health and Safety (CLEAPSS) and safe working
practices within Biology laboratories as provided by the Heads of Department, Head of
Science Faculty
Ensure, together with teaching staff, that laboratories are locked when teachers are not
present and that students do not have unsupervised access to laboratories, preparatory
rooms or science equipment
Prepare and set up the apparatus, materials and reagents as requested and as directed by
teachers for demonstration purposes and check that it functions properly and liaise with the
teacher(s) concerned at the earliest opportunity in the event of any difficulty
Provide general assistant to the teaching staff in order to enable the smooth running of
teaching and learning
Make sure all glassware and equipment is clean and ready for use
Tidy up each laboratory after each practical and ensure laboratories, resource rooms and
preparatory rooms are clean and tidy at the end of each day and each week. This includes
the General Science laboratory. Carry out a weekly timetabled laboratory
check/maintenance
Organise and store equipment, materials and apparatus as required in the laboratories and
in the preparation room
Monitor Biology and General Science expenditure in Science Faculty against budget and keep
the Head of Biology and Head of Faculty informed. Maintain spreadsheet of department
expenditure. Complete/check any paperwork relating to departmental expenditure
(requisitions, notes etc). Liaise with the Finance Department over budget matters in
consultation with the Heads of Department
Recommend equipment purchases and purchase equipment as authorised by the Head of
Biology within budgetary limits
Maintain the Biology equipment lists
Maintain an appropriate stock of apparatus, reagents, other consumables and stationery in
the Biology Department and order replacements as appropriate
Maintain an updated list of departmental chemicals in Biology and arrange for disposal of
unwanted, hazardous or expired chemicals
Purchase supplies of perishable items for experiments as required. Dispose of experiment
waste products guidelines
Photocopy and file worksheets, exam papers and revision packs as requested by the Head of
Biology or other teachers
Assist Heads of Department with Externally Moderated Practical Assessments and
examination coursework administration as needed
Be familiar with the use of the audio-visual, computer, electronic and IT equipment where
appropriate in the departments and be able to set them up for use in a class. This includes
delivery and removal of equipment to/from laboratories as required
Set up displays and equipment for school open days and displays as needed on departmental
display boards throughout the course of the academic year
Issue text books and exercise books and maintain records. Check the return of textbooks
annually or at other appropriate times of the year, including compiling a book charge sheet
for parents to be passed to the Bursary. Order exercise books as needed. Order textbooks in
consultation with the Heads of Department
Translate documents
Assist in the Upper School Chemistry/Physics Department in the absence of the Technician,
time and need permitting. Such assistance will only be with the agreement of your Head of
Department and in liaison with the other Head of Department/ Head of Science and PE
Faculty. Essential work in your department must remain your key priority
Ensure all required meetings are attended and all aspects of requests are prompt action
taken in a maintaining timely responses to deadlines at all times
Play an active role in developing practical, innovative and inspiring practical Science and show
a willingness to expand/participate in the Science and PE Faculty’s activities for open days
and its involvement with other schools and universities
Qualifications
• Thai Nationality
Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences
• Minimum 3 years’ experience in a related environment
(preferably in an international school)
• A responsible attitude, good customer service skills and trustworthy
• Good command of English, spoken and written (preferably IELTS score level 6 or TOEIC
score 600 or above)
• ICT literate with a good knowledge of internet, Microsoft Office at a highly proficient level
• Ability to work under pressure and to work without close supervision
Ability to work effectively, both in collaboration with other professionals/ teams
